Nicaraguan Vigorón is one of the country's most representative dishes. Additionally, it is very economical with an exquisite flavor. For this reason, over the decades it has become a symbol of Nicaragua's popular gastronomy. Today, you can learn all about its history.

The Vigorón was created by a woman named María Luisa Cisneros Lacayo, who was known as "La Loca". This woman, since 1914, amidst the craze for the national sport, baseball, decided to create an easy-to-prepare, new, and accessible recipe to sell.

María Luisa was well known on the baseball fields for her cheerful personality and the way she cheered for the fans of this sport in Granada. This delicious dish is made with few easily accessible ingredients such as: cassava, chicken salad, chicharrón, carrot, tomato and yuca.

The name of this gastronomic delight originally comes from a reconstituting tonic that was sold in pharmacies. Well, drinking Vigorón gave a kind of strength to the weakest man who consumed it. For this reason, she associated the action created by this tonic with her new and special dish.

Therefore, Vigorón not only grants strength to the hungry but also boosts morale for any day. This dish was mainly designed to provide the nutrients and vitamins necessary for baseball players and fans alike. Thus, after more than 100 years since its creation, this recipe remains one of the favorites for its authentic flavor and is available in much of Nicaragua.
